The Leading Edge Award recognizes creativity in the development of new themes, facilities, programs, services or operational concepts in the water attractions industry.

2019 Dream Design Award
Aquatics International selected The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark as a 2019 Dream Design. ADCI and Aquatic Development Group collaborated to create this new generation of luxury indoor waterpark resort. The vision was brought to life by Suffolk Construction.

This innovative and wildly creative resort boasts 324 exquisitely designed suites within a modern luxury lodge. The Kartrite has re-envisioned the perfect family resort...from its magical waterpark and fun-filled family entertainment center to innovative farm-to-table cuisine; from restorative spa to shopping spree afternoons.
ADCI President Bob Nagel Honored as a Patriotic Employer
Bob Nagel proudly accepted the Patriotic Employer award as presented by Roger Cole of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Bob was nominated for the award by ADCI designer and National Guardsman Phil Bebber, which recognizes efforts made by individual bosses and supervisors to support citizen warriors through flexible work schedules, time off for deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absences.

Phil is a Sergeant in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and has served for 10 years, including deployment to Afghanistan in 2012/2013. His unit is the 229 Engineers based out of Richland Center and Prairie du Chien, WI. Thank you for your service, Phil – we’re proud to have you on our team!
Commercial Design Award - 2018
Summer House Grill & Bar received the In Business magazine (Greater Madison) 2018 Commercial Design Award for Best New Development or Renovation - Restaurant or Bar. The award was presented to ADCI and clients Miza, Mary and Elvis on April 4, 2019.

"We've all been to those dreary, neighborhood bars, and this looks like it was one of those, and what they were able to convert it into was quite astounding," one of the CDA judges marveled.

Another judge remarked, "Hat's off to them for trying to work within the existing building." Rather than demolish the rundown, tired building, the owners decided to save the structure and invest in a renovation. The judges agreed that the greenest approach was to reuse the existing structure. ADCI architect Ryan McKichan led the design effort for Summer House.
Excellence in Construction - 2018
ADCI and Holtz Builders were honored by Associated Builders and Contractors with an Excellence in Construction Award on March 27 in Long Beach, California. The winning project was Camp Gray's "The Ark" - a new gymnasium and activities facility located at their camp campus near Reedsburg, WI.

No ordinary gymnasium building, The Ark is designed to blend with its woodland surroundings and Camp Gray's northwoods theme. Attention to scale, artistic touches and unique architectural detailing creates a welcoming space that inspires both competition and camaraderie.

The Excellence in Construction Award honors the skill and creativity of the entire team - contractor, owner, architect and engineer - responsible for an outstanding construction project.

Excellence in Masonry - 2018
The Wisconsin Masonry Alliance (WMA) awarded ADCI their Excellence in Masonry award for the Oak Park Place senior living community in Menasha, Wisconsin. Entries were judged on creativity and design excellence in the use of brick, stone and concrete masonry.

Josh Johnson, ADCI Senior Architect, noted during the award interview that while the building is not small, skillful use of brick and stone to break up the mass and elevations of the facility resulted in the building feeling comfortable in scale.

Oak Park Place ownership appreciates the durababilty and low maintenance aspect of the natural materials, while positive remarks from Oak Park Place residents and their family and friends on the aesthetics of the facility means the project was a success on all fronts.

Hospitality Giants - 2017
Interior Design magazine, an international publication, named ADCI among the Top 75 hospitality design firms in the US in its 2017 Hospitality Giants ranking.
Bob Nagel inducted into the WWA Hall of Fame
West Palm Beach, FL - Architectural Design Consultants, Inc. (ADCI) founder and president Robert W. Nagel was officially inducted into the World Waterpark Association (WWA) Hall of Fame at the Opening General Session of the WWA's 2017 Symposium and Tradeshow on October 17. The Hall of Fame honors and celebrates visionaries and pioneers who have reached a level of eminence through noteworthy contributions to the advancement and development of the water attractions industry.

Within the industry, Bob and ADCI are recognized as having designed more waterpark focused resorts than any other firm in the world. ADCI works on a multitude of projects in various industries across the United States, but nothing gets Bob energized like the prospect of designing another innovative, world-class indoor waterpark resort.
Excellence in Construction - 2017
The ADCI-designed renovation of a vacant hotel into a family-fun destination waterpark resort was awarded an Excellence in Construction Award by Associated Builders & Contractors of Oklahoma.

Always with an eye to ROI and guest satisfaction, ADCI staff crafted a conversion that maximizes usage of the existing building and property footprint while also allowing for potential future expansion of both the hotel and waterpark. Having worked with Great Wolf Resorts for years, ADCI architects understand "Great Wolf hospitality" and how that is most effectively translated into building features, design and ambiance. Showcasing stunning mountain views, incorporating the latest in resort features and capturing the "spirit of the wolf" were top priorities for the architects and interior designers. The result is a fun-filled family adventure destination that offers shopping, dining, recreation and relaxation under one roo.

ADCI, along with 5 other honorees, was presented the 2016 Wisconsin Family Business of the Year award on May 12 in Madison. "Our firm has won dozens of professional awards," stated ADCI founder and President Bob Nagel, "but this one carries the most meaning on a personal level. It's a testiment to what we're all about."

The award highlights and celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of family-owned businesses that make an impact on the Wisconsin business community. Winners are chosen by an independent panel of judges from nominations solicited from family businesses in Wisconsin.

M.A.C.S. and ADCI were honored with a First Place: Hospitality/Retail award by the International Interior Design Association Wisconsin Chapter in their 2016 Design Competition. Macaroni and Cheese Shop (M.A.C.S.) is a specialty menu restaurant located in the Wisconsin Dells area. ADCI assisted the Owners with tenant build-out and interior design. Durability, reproducibility and a warm, industrial-influenced theme were the goals successfully achieved.
Projects of Distinction - 2015
Silver Award: Kalahari Resort Phase I - Poconos, PA

Kalahari Resort in the beautiful Pocono Mountains lives up to its breathtaking setting. This new from the ground up destination resort boosts 457 hotel rooms, 110,000 SF convention center, a 135,000 SF indoor waterpark, 5 restaurants, a night club, indoor theme park and an extensive retail shopping area. Completion of Phase II will further elevate Kalahari Poconos to one of the largest indoor waterpark resorts in the country.
Projects of Distinction - 2015
Gold Award: Cold Water Canyon Clubhouse

Cold Water Canyon Golf Course is part of the beautiful Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. After an early 2014 fire extensively damaged the course's clubhouse, owners turned ADCI to design a new facility. Golfers and guests are enjoying the expanded pro shop, larger dining room and an expansive patio backdropped by spectacular views of the golf course. The architecture and interior design follow the feel of Chula Vista Resort...stonework, exposed timbers and warm colors.
Projects of Distinction - 2015
Gold Award: Glacier Valley Ford

Long-time Baraboo commercial resident, Glacier Valley Ford, had outgrown its facility and with no room to expand, the owners searched for a new location. Turning to the team of ADCI and Friede & Associates, a building nearly double the size of their existing facility was designed for this new state-of-the-art dealership.

Ensuring clients feel welcome was a priority for the owners. The customer lounge has amenties such as flat screen TVs, Wi-Fi, a children's area and beverage service to ensure any wait time is comfortable. An interior drive-through service lane allows customers to exit and enter their vehicles away from inclement weather.
Projects of Distinction - 2015
Gold Award: Jay's Power Center

Jay's Power Center had outgrown its location on Reedsburg's east side. The highly successful retailer of motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs and UTVs needed more space for not only their showroom, but a busy service center. When a former auto dealership property became available, the site size, features and location where perfect for a new, larger Power Center.

Working closely with the Owner and Polaris and Victory franchise representatives, the showroom and display spaces were carefully designed to create an effective sales environment that showcases vehicles and products while still allowing for a light-filled space, which was important to the Owner. A two-story, glass attrium provides ample room to prominently display vehicles both on the main floor and the second level. Well-planned lighting ensures that products are highly visible even after dark, creating a dramatic front entrance.
World Waterpark Association Leading Edge Awards - 2015
ADCI was recently honored with not one, but a pair of waterpark industry awards. Two exciting new resorts in the Pocono Mountains (PA) - Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Waterpark and Kalahari Resorts - and their design teams, both lead by ADCI, were selected by the World Waterpark Association (WWA) for a 2015 Leading Edge Award.

The award honors "park and supplier members who through their combined efforts have brought a project, product, service or program to fruition, thereby creating industry innovation and leadership."

"Receiving two Leading Edge Awards in the same year is an amazing accomplishment and speaks to the skill and dedication of our staff and that of our design partners," shared Bob Nagel, President and founder of ADCI. "A goal at ADCI is to position our clients as leaders in their communities and industries - this award confirms we are accomplishing that mission. Camelback and Kalahari ownership are equally committed to excellence and to delighting their guests with the best in resort facilities. The award is acknowledgement of their success."
